27 - VIP performance on e-safety

The importance of internet safety will be presented to pupils in a drama production at a borough school on Monday (30 June).

The Kingswinford school is hosting ESCape for its Years 7 and 8 on Monday as part of a new educational technique promoting positive aspects of new technologies and highlighting the importance of online safety.

The Dudley safeguarding children board has worked together with Saltmine Trust’s Red Balloon Theatre Company to create an enchanting cautionary fairytale.  The performance draws on the pupils’ imagination to get across the knowledge and skills to safeguard themselves online.

VIP guests of honour will include Dudley Council’s director of children’s services, John Freeman, Saltmine Trust chief executive, Phil Collins and a representative from Becta, the Government's lead agency for information and communications technology in education.

Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“The internet is now part of our everyday lives and can open up many new opportunities. This show will demonstrate to children how to make the most of the internet but remain safe on-line”.
