Hannah Gough, aged nine, and Edward Rouse, aged 10, of Alder Coppice Primary School, preparing to shoot their Eco Stars entry.
Budding stars from across the West Midlands are set to take part in a talent contest that’s encouraging school children to go green.
Dudley Council, one of five local authorities involved with the Eco Stars project, is inviting school pupils from across the borough to record their performances on environmental issues.
Participating schools are asked to submit a four-minute presentation on CD or DVD, which can include anything from singing to dancing and from acting to poetry.
It’s hoped the contest will have strong participation across the borough and will help the council spread its environmental messages to young and old alike.
The Alder Coppice Primary School in Sedgley is already turning heads with its submission, which showcases the school’s widely recognised bird conservation work.
Organised in partnership with the Helping Hand Company and Aylesford Newsprint, there are two £100 prizes up for grabs for the schools producing the best performances. A prize will be awarded for each of the age categories – school years one to six and seven to 11.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for the environment, said:
“It’s great to see another worthy project to help educate Dudley’s youngsters about the importance of doing their bit for the environment.
“I’m sure there’ll be lots of interesting submissions and I look forward to seeing them.”
