The crowds at this year’s St George’s celebration will need to be in good voice to join a professional singer in a giant sing-along.
Maggie O’ Hara will lead the hundreds of people at this year’s fun day in Sedgley in a number of national-themed songs.
It will include rousing renditions such as Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory.
Maggie has appeared at a number of St George’s events, and always gets people joining in with the famous hymns. She is the latest name to be added to the packed programme of entertainment in Vicar Street Gardens on April 26.
Councillor David Stanley, Mayor of Dudley, said:
“The list of great acts at the St George’s celebrations will make this a day to remember.
“We have a real variety of entertainment and we hope to see as many people as possible there on the day having fun.”
The popular event runs from 11am-3pm with a host of entertainment in the Vicar Street Gardens. There will also be a town crier and a 10ft tall knight helping with the festivities.
Comedy duo Brum and Dudley will be juggling, showing off their acrobatic skills and cracking gags to the hundreds of children and families.
War re-enactment specialists Drudian will be staging realistic mock battles between armour-clad knights armed with swords and shields.
Sedgley Community Association is providing refreshments in the community centre off Ladies Walk.
A range of events will also be held at Sedgley Library, Ladies Walk, including a colouring competition, quiz, baby and toddler rhyme session and poetry.
The Black Country Museum will also be bringing along a mobile parlour, where staff will be on hand to talk to people about how people lived years ago. Sedgley Morris Men will also be performing.
Sedgley school children have been involved in the preparation for event, including the Dormston School who are making a giant dragon, and pupils from Alder Coppice and Queen Victoria schools who will be singing and dancing.
The Mayor of Dudley will get the festivities underway by launching hundreds of red and white balloons into the air.
