Dudley Council works closely with housing associations within the borough to ensure that there is an increased level of affordable housing for its citizens. These homes will be created over the next 3 years (2008 – 2011) thanks to a successful bids made by Matrix, Bromford and Midland Heart housing associations and will be located at six sites throughout the borough.
The 169 homes will be a mixture of 73 dwellings for social renting and 96 dwellings for subsidised shared ownership, known as ‘HomeBuy’. To ensure all customers are catered for, the properties will be a combination of houses, flats, and specially adapted properties for vulnerable people. A premium has been put on making the homes as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible.
Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member for housing, said:
‘It is important we have sufficient affordable housing for citizens within the borough. It is very difficult for people to get onto the housing ladder due to high property prices and privately rented accommodation is charged at a premium.
