26 - Irresponsible dog owners fall foul of the law

Enforcement officers are encouraging dog walkers to pick up after their dog or be faced with a fine.

Dudley Council’s Saltwells Nature Reserve is being targeted for a clean up following complaints from users of the park who do not own dogs.  The problem is not only causing a nuisance to walkers but there are also health implications to consider.

New signs are being installed across the reserve warning potential offenders to clean up after their dog.  Enforcement officers are also issuing on-the-spot fines to irresponsible dog owners who fail to poop-scoop and dispose of it appropriately.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for the environment said:
“Most dog owners are conscientious and are keen to keep the pathways free from dog-fouling but a small minority are creating problems.  Saltwells is a public facility used by adults and children of all ages and it is inconsiderate to jeopardise their health and make the walks far less enjoyable”.
