A man linked to a suspected dumping of garden waste at a garage in Kingswinford has been left with a court bill of almost £700.
Michael William Young, of Marley Road, Kingswinford, pleaded guilty to two offences relating to the non-compliance with legal notices served on him by Dudley Council.
Young, whose work involves removing garden waste, appeared before Dudley Magistrates Court yesterday (Thur). The court heard that the council had received a number of complaints relating to a vehicle owned by Young, which had been seen and was suspected of being involved in fly tipping incidents.
Because Young failed to cooperate with the council he was served with legal notices, which requested him to provide information relating to the use of his vehicle and asking him to produce waste transfer notes for the movement of controlled waste.
Young was fined £220 for each offence and ordered to pay £250 in costs, making a total of £690.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for the environment, said:
“We would encourage more people to contact us if they suspect that people are dumping rubbish because we will always investigate incidents and will not hesitate to prosecute these people through the courts. I hope this court fine will act as a lesson to this man and as a warning to others who are involved in moving waste.”
People witnessing fly-tipping can report it by calling Dudley Council Plus on 01384 812345. Alternatively it can be reported at www.dudley.gov.uk or on the council’s Digi TV site, available to all residents with interactive digital television systems.
