Volunteers at a popular drop-in centre for the elderly in Halesowen had an extra special visit from the Mayor of Dudley this week.
The Mayor, Councillor David Stanley dropped by the Queensway centre for the elderly today (Weds) to meet volunteers and those who find their service invaluable.
The centre off Andrew Road, run as an independent charity, was set up 24 years ago. It is open five days a week, providing a warm and comfortable place for elderly residents to get together, have a chat and a bite to eat.
About 40 volunteers regularly help out and more than 100 people drop by every day.
A number of fundraising events, such as whist drives and raffles, are also held and people can get benefits advice by appointment from the Pension Service.
Councillor David Stanley, Mayor of Dudley said:
“I’d just like to thank all the volunteers at this popular centre for all the hard work and dedication they put in to providing this invaluable service.
“It provides a friendly, welcoming environment; a place for people to drop in and have a chat with friends and a bite to eat. It really is a lifeline for so many people and it was wonderful to go along and meet with them all.”
