The Red House Glass Cone in Wordsley is hosting a five day masterclass with celebrated glass artist Karl Harron.
Karl is one of two education artists in residence at the Red House Glass Cone and Broadfield House Glass Museum working with schools, students and glass artists to share a new approach to this unique material.
Karl is from Northern Ireland and is an established artist, publishing articles, running master classes and art based training.
Students attending the five-day course at the historic site will learn about kiln preparation and use, choice of materials and design. The emphasis is on acquiring technical knowledge through a practical, hands-on approach.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for the environment said:
“Students attending the “Perfect Vessel” masterclass will not only benefit from Karl’s own experience but should draw new inspiration for their own work from the class.”
During the residency Karl, along with fellow artist Shelagh Swanson will also create a piece of glass to donate to the museums service collection.
The 13 week residency project is funded by Renaissance West Midlands, with Bullseye Glass sponsoring the glassmaking workshops.
