17 - Young people run a mile

Archived news release from 2008

The national Sport Relief appeal had a boost this weekend from a Dudley Council children’s residential unit.

Two young people from Maitland Road children’s residential unit were joined by seven staff on a mile run for charity at the weekend.  On Sunday (16 March) competitors trudged through the mud in freezing temperatures at the event organised at Warley Rugby Club.  It was the idea of 15 year-old Blake Worrall and 17 year-old Jamie Bilsby to join the run and the staff were keen to support them.

Family, friends and other young people helped by sponsoring the runners and one young person from Adshead Road residential home even donated £3 of her pocket money.

Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services said:

“I admire the effort that everyone showed on the day and so far the funds raised by the residential unit have reached over £180 with more still to collect.  Well done to Blake and Jamie for organising their part of the mile run.”
