2 - Beads day at glass museum

There will be beads galore at Broadfield House Glass Museum in Kingswinford as the annual beads day returns on Saturday 10 May.

Highlights of the council-led event museum include demonstrations of beadmaking and lamp-working by leading members of the Glass Beadmakers UK, including Pauline Holt of Jazzy Lily Hot Glass, Liz Parker, Beverley Hicklin and Lesley MacFarland.

There will be a range of local and national trade stands for keen beaders, including contemporary pieces from members of the Glass Beadmakers UK Society and by Stourbridge-based glass artist Sabre Gilmartin who also uses semi-precious stones.

Beads of all shapes, sizes and colours will be for sale, and prices will range from pocket money to priceless. Ethnic Bargains, who established their business in Dudley three years ago after winning a start-up grant from the Prince’s Trust, will be selling a wide range of beads and jewellery.

Roger Dodsworth, keeper of glass at Broadfield, said:

“The beads day has become a popular annual event where visitors can explore the wonderful world of beads.

“The displays and demonstrations will be fascinating for everyone to see, with plenty to interest experts and beginners alike.”

Broadfield House Glass Museum is on Compton Drive in Kingswinford. The event will run from 10am to 4pm and admission is free.  For further information call 01384 812745 or visit www.glassmuseum.org.uk.
