23 - Duncan Edwards exhibition stays in Dudley

An exhibition paying tribute to Dudley footballer Duncan Edwards and other local heroes is now a permanent attraction at Dudley Museum and Art Gallery.

The Mayor of Dudley Councillor Ray Burston and relatives of Duncan Edwards will attend a special opening event on Friday 6 June at 2.30pm.

Photos, England caps, sports shirts, press cuttings as well as England and Manchester United memorabilia will all feature in the Duncan Edwards collection - in memory of the footballer who died with other Manchester United players as a result of a plane crash in Munich in February 1958.

The opening of the new Duncan Edwards gallery is timed to coincide with a special Duncan Edwards celebration day taking place in the town centre on Saturday 7 June from 11am to 4pm.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environment and culture, said:

“Duncan Edwards remains in the hearts and minds of people who live in Dudley and the museum’s collection is a great tribute to him.

“We’re committed to celebrating and embracing the achievements of all local people and the exhibition will prove a great focal point for this.”

Dudley Museum and Art Gallery, St. James’s Road (entrance at Priory Street), is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm and is closed on Bank Holidays.
