Dudley Museum and Art Gallery will be rocking out on Saturday 10 May when it hosts a launch party for a new booklet on Norton Covert - one of the borough’s most fascinating geological sites.
The Dudley Council museum will mark the publication’s launch in a special open day, running from 10am to 4pm, with a number of special activities, demonstrations and talks.
Copies of the leaflet, which looks at the Stourbridge woodland area and its geological features, which date back to the Ice Age and the evolution of dinosaurs, will be available to take away.
Throughout the launch day, the museum’s Ice Age gallery will be open with a chance to look at Ice Age artefacts dating back 10,000 years. Special information videos, looking at Dudley’s fascinating geological history, can be viewed on the museum’s screens throughout the day.
Graham Worton, keeper of geology at the museum, will also be using the museum’s new geo-lab to demonstrate how scientists examine different types of rocks.
Adrian Durkin, exhibitions officer at Dudley Museum and Art Gallery, said:
“Although the area was used as a gravel pit for aggregate and sand in the 19th century, Norton Covert is now a beautiful area full of natural features and wildlife.
“We’re delighted to be supporting the launch of this leaflet and would like to thank everyone who has been involved in its production.”
The publication has been produced by the Black Country Geodiversity Partnership with funding from Defra's Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund administered by Natural England. It
