Bank holiday waste collections in Dudley have been hailed a success after residents responded positively to the improved service.

Dudley Council recently announced collections will now be held on Easter Monday, May Day, Whit Monday, August Bank Holiday and Good Friday. This means collections are now held on all week days of the year apart from the Christmas and New Year period.

The waste management team has thanked residents for responding to the new bank holiday service which took place for the first time this week and ensuring their bags were put out for collection.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for the environment and culture, said:
“With any change in service there is always the worry that people will not realise collections are taking place. We are delighted to be able to collect on all bank holidays and would like to thank residents for putting their waste out for the Bank Holiday Monday this week.

“We would also urge people who may be away on future bank holidays to ask their neighbours to put out their bags for collection.”

Collections were previously only made on May Day and Good Friday but the improved, extended service means all bank holidays are now covered.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, added:
“The introduction of bank holiday collections really is a significant improvement in the service. We’re sure it will be welcomed by all residents who receive collections on these days.”

Residents are reminded to ensure their bags are left out for collection from 6am on the morning of collection.
