This summer Himley Hall will host the region’s biggest festival dedicated to showcasing the talents of young people and children in arts education.
The festival’s theme this year is ‘songs from the shows’. The weekend kicks off on Friday 4 July with the prestigious Rock the Castle event designed by borough teenagers for teenagers. 35 rock bands will perform, plus a DJ Tent, dance-off, funfair, catering, face painting and bar (for adults only).
Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July include performances from theatre groups, dance organisations, school music groups, massed choirs, singers, soloists, acoustic acts, drummers, orchestras and bands.
Opportunities are still available for dance organisations, school music groups, singers, drama groups and DJs to participate at the festival for the Saturday or Sunday events. Anyone interested can visit www.dudley.gov.uk/dpa and follow the links to the festival site to complete the online ‘take part’ form. The festival programme will be available to view on the website and will be continually updated as the festival draws near.
This year’s festival is free to those aged 16 and under for the Saturday and Sunday events. Normal charges apply for Rock the Castle. All other tickets cost £5 (£4 concessions) and are available in advance from Dudley Box Office on 01384 812812.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services said:
“The Dudley Performing Arts festival gets bigger and better and this year’s event is no exception. This event is an ideal opportunity for the many musically talented young people from across the borough to present to a wide audience. I wish everyone taking part in the event every success for the festival.”
