2 - Council achieves internationally recognised award for car park management

The team which manages Dudley Council’s car parks across the borough has achieved an internationally recognised standard for quality service.

The council’s parking management team was put forward for the British Standards Institution’s ISO 9001:2000 award following an external audit.

This recognises the council’s commitment to quality as it carries out the management, maintenance and security of car parks along with its customer care.

The team of ten currently manages 77 free and pay and display car parks across the borough of which 13 have Safer Car Park awards.

On July 7 the council also takes over responsibility for on-street parking enforcement across the borough from the police.

Existing restrictions on our roads will remain the same following this transfer of responsibility, which will free police to concentrate on and direct resources to criminal matters.

Through civil parking enforcement, the council aims to tackle the congestion caused by illegal and inconsiderate parking which causes problems in our towns, whether you’re driving, cycling, on public transport or on foot.

A further 16 civil enforcement officers are currently being recruited in preparation for this expanding role.

John Millar, director of the urban environment, said:

“Congratulations to the parking management team for achieving this internationally recognised quality standard.

“We are committed to providing a high quality service in the management of the council’s car parks. I know we will be looking to achieve the same high standard when we take over responsibility for on-street parking enforcement in the borough on July 7.”
