2 - Gas is a big success!

Around 20,000 council properties have received gas safety checks over the last year – highlighting Dudley Council’s commitment to ensuring the safety of their tenants.

The council works closely with contractors E-ON to carry out their annual servicing to all council owned tenanted properties and ensure it meets its landlord responsibilities. The programme of safety checks has included the installation of central heating within homes without heating and the replacement of obsolete boilers.

The services are carried out on an annual basis to ensure tenants are safe in their own homes as carbon monoxide is a potential killer.

During this year’s checks 262 properties have had central heating installed, as the council aims for its goal of installation within all properties.  Central heating aids the comfort of tenants, whilst heating their homes and providing hot water. Meanwhile 885 old boilers have been replaced with new energy efficient systems.

Linda Sanders, director of adult, community & housing services, said
“Meeting the decent homes standard is extremely important to us as we want to ensure all of our tenants live in good quality homes.  Gas plays an important part in this as it enables us to install efficient, energy saving central heating – ultimately helping our customers made savings on their heating bills.”
