A small section of a main road in Stourbridge will be made one-way while utility works are carried out later this month.
Hagley Road will be made one-way between its junctions with Glasshouse Hill (Oldswinford Cross) and Field Lane from May 24. The work to install a new gas main along this 150 metre stretch of road is expected to take three weeks.
Traffic travelling from Oldswinford Cross will be able to use Hagley Road heading out towards Hagley, but the small stretch of road will be closed to traffic heading towards Stourbridge. A diversion route will be signed.
After these essential utility works have been completed by National Grid Gas, Dudley Council will take the opportunity to resurface this stretch of road. To cause minimum disruption and inconvenience this re-surfacing will only be carried out on three Sundays (June 22, June 29 and July 13). The section of road will be closed on these days in both directions for this work to take place and a diversion route will again be signed. On July 6 smaller works will be taking place, but a road closure will not be necessary.
People are reminded these advance works will be followed by essential utility works and the re-surfacing of Hagley Road from the Stourbridge ring road up to Oldswinford Cross.
.
The works will take place during the school summer holidays when the roads are less congested, again in an effort to cause minimal disruption.
Councillor Angus Adams, cabinet member for transportation, said:
“These advance utility works will start during the school half-term holidays while the roads are less busy. We have also taken the opportunity to resurface this short section of road immediately after the gas work has been completed to cause minimum disruption.
“Likewise we are working with National Grid Gas and Severn Trent over the school summer holidays to combine the works to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”
National Grid Gas, Severn Trent Water and the council will be carrying out their main works from late July to early September. The work will be completed within six to eight weeks.
