The Mayor of Dudley will help raise funds to support ex-servicemen and local people with autism during his year in office.
Councillor Ray Burston was officially made Mayor of Dudley at last night’s (Thur) full council meeting where he announced his chosen charities for the year.
They are ‘No Limits’ Community Project, which was previously known as Dudley Autistic Resource Team. This charity offers support to people across the Dudley borough who suffer from autism, including Asperger’s Syndrome.
The second charity Councillor Burston has chosen he has entitled ‘Thank You’ and is made up of the five armed forces charities. The five individual charities are the Royal British Legion, the Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society, the Army Benevolent fund, the Royal Naval Benevolent Fund and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. All of these charities are dedicated to helping ex-servicemen through illness, disability or personal misfortune.
Councillor Ray Burston, the Mayor of Dudley, said:
“I hope we will be able to raise thousands of pounds for my chosen charities which are very close to my heart.
“My wife’s son has Asperger’s Syndrome and in my role as Dudley Council’s champion for autism I have met many people with autism. I am hopeful that through various fund-raising efforts throughout the year we will be able to make a difference to the lives of many people with autism in the borough.”
Of his other chosen charity, Councillor Burston added:
“I have given the second charity a group heading of ‘Thank You’ because I think it is really important that we show our appreciation for the work of the armed forces. Again, I hope through people’s kind donations we will be able to offer ex-servicemen the support they deserve.”
