A Dudley learning centre has relocated to the former RosewoodSchool site on the Russells Hall estate following a site revamp.
The newly named ‘Cherry Tree Learning Centre’ is part of Dudley’s Pupil Referral Service. It provides for up to 90 primary and secondary age pupils who are unable to attend mainstream schools due to medical and emotional difficulties.
Cherry Tree pupils follow the national curriculum as well as taking part in activities to support their learning. In the majority of cases this is a temporary placement prior to the pupils returning to their mainstream school. The Cherry Tree Learning Centre also provides educational support for children at Russells Hall Hospital and home tuition for those too ill to attend the centre.
A recent Ofsted inspection gave the service a glowing report with all areas rated at least a ‘good’. The care, guidance and support offered by the team were described as ‘outstanding’. The report highlighted the tireless work of staff to forge excellent relationships with all pupils, making them feel at ease and helping them grow in confidence.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“The Cherry Tree Learning Centre provides an excellent service to children and young people who are unable to attend mainstream school. The help and support they provide, not only for the children, but also their parents and carers, during a difficult time are exemplary. I would like to congratulate the staff at Cherry Tree on receiving an excellent inspection report which is a testimony to their hard work and dedication”.
