23 - Road safety is theme of the week

Road safety is the theme of the week at Dudley libraries during half term.

Activities will take on a road safety twist in order to push key safety messages to both children and adults alike.

Kicking off the week’s activities is a demonstration for adults on how to fit a child car safety seat by the fire service at Wordsley Library on Tuesday May 27 from 11am to 1pm.

The regular story and craft sessions for children aged five to 11 years will also take on a road safety theme.  Sessions will take place at Kingswinford Library on Tuesday May 27 from 3pm to 3.45pm, Dudley and Halesowen libraries on Wednesday May 28 from 2pm to 3pm, Stourbridge Library on Thursday May 29 from 10.30am to 11.30am and at Brierley Hill Library on Friday May 30 from 2pm to 3pm.

Children at Halesowen Library will make a traffic light cone and at Dudley Library children will take part in a road safety quiz.

Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said:
“Dudley Council is keen to make sure children and young people are aware of potential dangers on our roads.  These activities are therefore a great way to share key messages with children and about how to stay safe when out and about.”

The events are free.  For tickets contact the appropriate library.  For more information contact Judith Worton on 01384 818360.

These events are organised as part of National Year of Reading 2008.  To find out more go to www.dudley.gov.uk/reading
