20 - Silver Surfers Day

Eager silver surfers across the borough are urged to zip along to Dudley libraries this Friday (May 23) as part of a national campaign.

Dudley libraries are hosting a number of sessions to celebrate and promote Silver Surfers Day which is designed to encourage older people to get in touch with the world through computer technology.

The free taster sessions will help boost the confidence of older people who are apprehensive about computers and encourage them to make the most of free computer access available at council-run libraries.

Sessions are tailored to individual needs and can include a brief hands-on introduction to computer technology, learning how to search the internet or how to set up an e-mail account.

The first session of the day is at Brierley Hill Library from 9am to 1pm.  Dudley, Gornal, Lye, Netherton, Stourbridge and Wordsley Green will also hold morning sessions from 10am to 12noon.

There will be afternoon sessions at Coseley and Sedgley libraries from 2.15pm to 3.15pm, Dudley Library from 2.30pm to 3.30pm and at Cradley, Halesowen, Kingswinford and Long Lane libraries from 2pm to 4pm.

Councillor Michael Evans, lead member for libraries and archives, said:
“The free sessions provide an ideal opportunity for some of our older residents to boost their confidence when getting to grips with the World Wide Web whether it’s for the first time or even if they already know the basics”.
