A local eighteen-year old musician has just secured a prized position in a national brass band.
College student Joshua Raybould from Sedgley, has just become the solo cornet player with the National Methodist Youth Band. Josh performed in Cardiff and Stratford recently and regularly performs at venues across the UK and tours abroad during the summer.
Josh’s musical path started with the help of tuition from Dudley Performing Arts (DPA) where he learned to play the trumpet at the young age of eight. After working his way up through the band structure Josh eventually became principle cornet player with the Metropolitan Brass Band. In addition to his commitment to the DPA, he also plays with the City of Birmingham Brass Band.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services said:
“The dedication shown by Joshua is a great example to other young people with a desire to become the best and follow their dream. Congratulations to Joshua on his success so far and I wish him every success for his future career.”
John Freeman, director of Dudley Council’s children’s services said:
“Joshua is a very talented young man and he is a wonderful inspiration to children and young people of all ages. With the right encouragement and with the expert tuition such as that provided by the DPA we are able to nurture talented young musicians in our borough.”
