Dudley Council’s building services had a brush with success after thousands of council properties were spruced up during an ongoing painting programme.
Dudley’s housing painting programme is set to hit a target of over 14,000 completed properties by September this year.
The partnership programme which involves Dudley Council working with painting contractors Mitie Property Services has so far completed over 12,500 properties since the external painting programme started in May 2006.
In addition, a service has recently been introduced into the programme and will begin in Lye during May, where tenants will be invited to choose the render and door colours to be used on their homes.
Meanwhile the internal communal painting programme has gone from strength to strength with 270 low blocks, seven high rise blocks and five sheltered schemes redecorated since December 2006. A further 600 eligible residents have also received assistance with decorating on the social decorations programme.
Linda Sanders, director of adult, community and housing said:
“The programme to paint council dwellings was a massive undertaking and one which from the outset aimed to include as well as provide benefit to our tenants. Dudley works successfully in partnership with many different parties to provide services to residents and I would like to express my thanks to officers and contractors for their efforts.”
Alan Miles, from the Dudley Federation of Tenants and Residents said:
“I would encourage any tenants who are given the opportunity to have a say about the redecoration of their home, to do so.”
