A fantastic new garden is being planned by a Dudley children’s centre to give young children the chance to explore and learn in the outdoors.
The ambitious plans will see Priory Children Centre’s existing outdoor area redeveloped to create an exciting new area for children and families.
The plans will be introduced in phases and will include a vegetable garden, under-twos area, forest and adventure trail and sandpit/water area.
Staff at the centre, next to Priory Primary School in Limes Road, are bidding for cash to support the project and will also be holding a number of fundraising activities throughout the year.
They are currently concentrating on the vegetable garden and would like to encourage local companies to get involved and support their plans. This may be through donating items such as gardening tools, vegetable/flower seeds, compost bins, paving slabs, railway sleepers, a small potting shed or greenhouse.
Diane Davies, children’s centre manager, said:
“Giving children the chance to learn and play outside is really important to their development.
“We would love to involve the local community in our projects and help them feel part of the work the centre does.”
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“Being able to explore the outside world in a secure and interesting environment is important to children from a very young age. I wish the centre all the best with their plans.”
Any companies who would like to get involved can contact Jenny Steadman on 01384 812016.
Priory Children’s Centre provides early education and childcare for children aged from six weeks to five years. Parents and carers can also access training opportunities, health advice and support and information.
The centre was developed following extensive consultation with families in the area, and children were also asked what they wanted during specialist sessions.
