War veterans in Dudley will be able to meet up with old comrades and enjoy entertainment at an event in the town next month.
Dudley Council will mark Veterans Day with the event at Dudley Concert Hall on June 27 from 2 to 4.30pm. The event, which will include music, displays and refreshments will be hosted by the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Ray Burston.
As part of the Veterans Day event the council is organising a presentation ceremony for veterans living in Dudley who have received a UK Armed Forces Veterans Badge. People who have received such a badge but have not had it formally presented can arrange for this to take place at the event on Veterans Day. People should call Margaret Gregory on 01384 815201 before June 27 to make these arrangements.
Veterans are entitled to an HM Armed Forces Veterans Badge and UK Merchant Seafarers Veterans Badge if they have served in the UK Armed Forces. This includes veterans of ongoing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
People can apply for a badge by calling the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency on freephone 0800 169 2277, or write to the Veteran’s Agency at Thorton Cleveleys, Lancashire, FY5 3WP or e-mail veterans.help@spva.gsi.gov.uk
In addition there is a Bevin Boys Badge available to all surviving Bevin Boys to formally recognise their work in the UK Coalfields during and immediately after the Second World War. It can be issued posthumously to widows of men who died on and after 20/06/2007. For details about eligibility people can call Lynne Box on 01384 815218.
Councillor Ray Burston, the Mayor of Dudley, said:
“I hope as many veterans as possible will contact the council in the coming weeks and come along to the event. They will be able to meet up with old comrades, enjoy the entertainment on offer and have badges officially presented to them.”
