Forthcoming activities and events

National Year of Reading - homepage

A whole host of activities and events have been organised to celebrate National Year of Reading at libraries, schools and other venues during the year.

There's the Big Book Fortnight in May which designed to inspire a love of reading in local people and encourage more people to make the most of their local library.  During Big Book fortnight renowned authors visited the borough's libraries and talked about their latest books.

Children aged four to 12 took part in the Summer Reading Challenge where they were tasked with reading six books during the schools holidays.  The title of this year's challenge was Team Read to tie in with the Bejing Olympics 2008.

Plus borough schools are hosting book quizzes during the year for children in Key Stage 1 and 2 to pit their wits against each other.

Later in the year local people can discover the borough's past during a programme of local history lectures at Dudley, Stourbridge and Halesowen libraries.

This is just a taster of what's been happening during the year, for up-to-date information on forthcoming activities watch this space or call Hilary Riley or Lynda Wattis on 01384 812829.
