Red House Glass Cone tour guide Brian Perry prepares for the spooky event.
Ghostly goings-on are in store for visitors at Stourbridge’s historic Red House Glass Cone in Wordsley.
The landmark attraction is holding spooky ghost tours on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 October.
Led by one of the museum’s tour guides, the tours will aim to track down the ghost of former glassworks owner Frederick Stuart, who owned the Red House Glass Cone until his death in 1900.
It is claimed that the ghost of Frederick, who worked at the cone from the age of 12, can’t leave the place alone and is often seen wondering about.
On both nights there will be three family friendly candle-lit tours, between 6 and 8.15pm, and extra spooky adult tours, from 8.15pm.
During the evening visitors will be also be able to watch glassmaking and for a small charge youngsters can enjoy spooky spider painting sessions from Saz’s Ceramics, which is run by ceramics artist and cone tenant Sarah Cannings.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environment and culture, said:
“A candle-lit tour of the cone is great family fun and full of fascinating facts about the history of this remarkable place, which is one of the last remaining glass cones in the country.
”Legend has it that Frederick Stuart, who bought the cone aged 65 and ran it until he died aged 80, still can’t leave the place alone.”
Frightening candle-lit fun for all the family costs £6.50 adults, £5.50 concessions, £3.50 children or £16 for a family ticket. Booking is essential, call 01384 812750 for tickets.
