28 - Building a future for prospective construction workers

Experts in construction will be showcasing their skills in a bid to help people into the industry at a series of events.
 
People will be able to find out more about a career in a range of fields during the week-long initiative from November 17-21.
 
The events, organised by Dudley Council’s Future Skills team, includes trades demonstrations, advice for women in construction and general help for people considering a career.
 
People will be able to get advice on bricklaying at the BEST training centre, Woods Lane, Brierley Hill, from November 17-21, from 9am-4pm. Carpentry and painting and decorating advice will be available at Griffin Street training centre, Netherton, on the same dates and times.
 
The BEST centre will also host advice for women and people from black and ethnic minority communities wanting a career in construction as well as offering advice to people setting up their own business, on November 18, from 11am-2pm. From 3-8pm there will be career advice at the Real Apprentice event at Brierley Hill Civic Hall.
 
There will be a community open day at the new health and social care centre in Little Cottage Street, Brierley Hill, on November 19, from 9.30am-4pm. Pupils from Pensnett School of Technology will also tour the facility.
 
Stourbridge College’s Advanced Technology Centre will be throwing open its doors on November 20 for guided tours. The centre, in Waterfront, Brierley Hill, will be open from 11am-2pm for the hourly guided tours.
 
Future Skills staff will be at the BEST training centre every day for people to speak to during the week, from 9am-4pm.
Brierley Hill Community Forum Signpost information centre in High Street will offer advice on the week’s events.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for people to find out more about a career in construction. We have experts in hand in a range of fields to help and support people into work.”
 
Dudley Council’s Future Skills has teamed up with a number of agencies to put on the events including Advantage West Midlands, Carillion Building, Dudley Infracare LIFT, Stourbridge College, Brierley Hill Community Forum, DORCAS Housing Association, Black Country Training Group, Pensnett School of Technology and Construction Skills.
