Whether it’s creating a comic strip masterpiece or taking part in pirate themed story sessions, there’s plenty to keep children busy at Dudley libraries this half term.
The highlight of the week will be the return of artist Kev Sutherland, famous for his work in the Beano magazines. Kev will share his creative flare with children as he helps them create their own comic strip which will be on display in the libraries.
Kev will be at Dudley Library from 10am to 12.15pm and Halesowen Library from 1.45pm to 4pm on Tuesday October 28. While children get stuck into creating their masterpiece, Kev will draw caricatures of all of the children taking part for them to take home. This special event is aimed at local looked after children. There are limited places available, please book in advance.
Children keen to learn more about bike safety are urged to come along to ‘On yer bike’ activities organised by bike charity, Sustrans. During the sessions children will learn how to cycle safely and fix a puncture. There are goodie bags for each child taking part.
Sessions take place at the recently opened Dudley Wood Library Link on Tuesday October 28 and at Halesowen Library on Wednesday October 29 from 2pm to 4pm.
There will also be big picture parties where children can celebrate the wonderful illustrations in picture books at Dudley Library on Saturday October 25 from 11am to 12noon, Kingswinford Library on Thursday October 30 from 10.30am to 11.30am and Stourbridge Library on Friday October 31 from 11am to 12noon.
During half term week, all libraries will also host pirate themed crafts and story sessions. People can call or visit their nearest library for details.
Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said:
“With so many free activities taking place in libraries this half term, children really do have so much to choose from to keep them busy during the holidays. Places do go quickly so parents are urged to book early by contacting their local library to avoid disappointment.”
All the activities are organised as part of the council’s family learning festival, which runs throughout October.
