A Stourbridge man has landed a £215 court bill after he was caught illegally carrying scrap metal.
Mark Robson of Linden Road was stopped by police and Dudley Council enforcement officers on June 13 this year as part of a joint exercise to clamp down on vehicles illegally carrying waste and scrap metal.
When Robson was stopped and questioned by council officers he admitted that he was not a registered waste carrier and that he occasionally undertook gardening work.
The 22-year-old had no paperwork to support the movement of waste on his vehicle and later enquiries with the Environment Agency confirmed that he was not a registered waste carrier.
At a hearing at Dudley Magistrates Court yesterday (Thurs) Robson entered a guilty plea to the charge and was fined £75 and ordered to pay £125 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environment and culture, said:
“All businesses that carry waste, including scrap merchants, skip companies, builders and gardeners, must have a waste carriers licence and make sure they have the correct paperwork.
“I hope this fine will help get the message across that anyone caught illegally transporting waste will be prosecuted through the courts.”
