The newly constructed parallel route in Brierley Hill is due to open on Monday (27 Oct).
The multi million pound scheme to construct a new road parallel to Brierley Hill High Street between Dudley Road and Church Street, has been completed on schedule and within budget.
From next Monday motorists and road users will be able to access the full length of the new road, which aims to tackle traffic congestion in and around Brierley Hill, for the first time.
A number of improvements have also been made at Bryce Road/Pensnett Road, Hickman Road/Pensnett Road and Bank Street/Brockmoor High Street junctions.
The new road will bring many benefits, which include reduced congestion in the High Street, making the town a safer place for everyone to use and improved air quality in and around the town.
Motorists and other road users are advised to take care in the area while new road layouts are observed.
Councillor Angus Adams, cabinet member for transportation, said:
“This is excellent news and I am delighted that the project has completed on time. The council and Carillion delivery teams have worked extremely hard to ensure that disruption has been kept to a minimum.
“The new road will offer immediate benefits to the town centre and surrounding area by reducing congestion in the High Street and making it a safer place for everyone to use.”
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank local residents, businesses and members of the public for their continued patience and support during the construction of the project.”
The official opening of the new road will take place on November 6 2008.
Partners include: construction partner Carillion, Waterman Civils, Brierley Hill Regeneration Partnership (BHRP) and Westfield.
