Exciting new play facilities will be brought to parks across the borough thanks to national funding that has been secured by Dudley Council.
Public play area in 28 borough sites will be upgraded following a £2.6 million grant from the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
The work is part of the Play Pathfinder Project, which will create exciting new play facilities for 20,000 children and young people who live in the borough.
It follows extensive consultation with children, young people and families that took place in local parks and children’s play areas over a ten-week period.
Work to play areas in Abbey Street and Woodside Park will start in the next few months and it is hoped they will reopen by the end of March 2009. There are also plans for a brand new outdoor and indoor adventure playground in Sycamore Green.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“The Play Pathfinder funding will allow us to transform existing playgrounds into state-of-the-art play areas for children, where families and the community can take pride in the new facilities.
“It’s very important to us that our children and young people are provided with safe places to play outdoors and be physically active.”
