The popular Good Neighbour Awards have been given “royal” backing after Dudley’s official Queen of Culture agreed to help judge this year’s nominations.
Pat Wakelam, the borough’s cultural ambassador, will join the judging panel for the Good Neighbour Awards 2008.
The awards have been launched in a bid to find those people who spend their time helping others.
The annual event is now in its fourth year and aims to reward those people living in high rise blocks who go above and beyond in a bid to create thriving communities.
Pat Wakelam, Queen of Culture, said:
“There are some fantastic people in this borough who work tirelessly for their neighbours in high rise blocks.
“Being part of the judging panel will give me the opportunity to meet some of these unsung heroes.”
Residents are being asked to nominate someone who they feel deserves this year’s award. It could be someone who does odd jobs such as cooking or shopping for an elderly resident or just generally being a good neighbour.
The winner and runner-up will be chosen by a judging panel and handed their trophies at an awards evening in December.
Dudley Council and Dudley Federation of Tenants & Residents Associations have teamed up with the High Rise Living Forum to run the awards.
Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member for housing, said:
“I am delighted the Queen of Culture is involved in this year’s awards. This year’s awards are shaping up to be the best ever.”
Nomination forms have been delivered to residents in high rise blocks across the borough. You can also vote on line at www.dudley.gov.uk or pick up a form from Dudley Council Plus. The closing date for entries is November 14.
