Error Messages and Timeouts

Error Messages

Many of our forms require you to enter information, such as dates and telephone numbers, in the correct format, and that you complete any required (*) items on a page before you are allowed to continue.

Error messages appear below the affected item and indicate that something is missing or not formatted correctly.

These messages may be shown in dark blue text on pale green, dark red text on pale yellow, or white text on dark red.

Form Timeout

Our newer forms should not timeout as they use JavaScript to maintain connection with our site, but even these forms may sometimes disconnect, if your service provider limits your connection time or your browser is set-up to disconnect if left idle too long.

Our older forms are more limited: spend more than 45 minutes on a page and our site assumes you have stopped work. It abandons the form, which shows as a timeout.

This is easily avoided: be aware of the time limit, and move to another page and return if you need more time. Navigate as often as necessary to complete your form.

Job Application Timeouts

Our online job application forms do not timeout if your browser is running JavaScript.

However, when using our older application form, if you remain on a form page for more than 40 minutes, an alert will be displayed asking you to allow the page to refresh.  When you select ok, the form will refresh its connection to our site.  You will have 5 minutes to do so before the timeout.  After this refresh, the page will display prompts where additional information is still required *. You will then have a further 40 minutes to work on the page before another refresh is requested.

If you experience frequent timeouts or dropped connections, we suggest you save your work often and prepare as much as possible before beginning the form.

Note: our school-based vacancies often provide a MS Word version of the form to be downloaded, completed, and returned by email or by post.
