Asset Management promotes the effective and efficient use of property. One of the many ways it does this is by ensuring that property issues are high on Council agendas. Property is usually the second largest cost to many Local Authorities after staff; but despite this, it is often overlooked. At Dudley Council, as well as ensuring that buildings are safe and accessible to all citizens, we believe that property should be viewed as an extension to the frontline services provided for the local community. As such, we try to ensure that our buildings complement and add further value to those services.
Through continuously reviewing its methods and procedures, improvements are made in the way Dudley manages its properties. The condition and suitability of our properties are reviewed at regular intervals to ensure that buildings are appropriate for wide range of services provided from them.
Dudley also holds a significant amount of data such as repairs and maintenance data, suitability, site, floor and roof areas, AutoCAD drawings, digital photographs, lease details etc that is used to inform land and property decision making. To facilitate management of this data, the Council has invested in a new corporate wide IT system. The new system provides Officers around the Council to a single point of access to data at the touch of a button.
