All food premises in the borough are required to be registered or approved with the Council.
The definition of food premises is very wide and even covers premises serving only drinks or wrapped items.
The law requires that premises used for a food business (including market stalls, delivery vehicles and other moveable structures) should be registered. Registration of a Food Business Establishment, which cannot be refused, allows us to keep an up-to-date list of all those premises in our area so we can visit them when we need to.
If you operate food business establishments in more than one Local Authority area, you must register each establishment with each authority separately.
Moveable establishments such as ice cream vans should be registered by the food business operator with the Local Authority in whose area the vehicle is normally kept.
Certain food business establishments (in particular those supplying food of animal origin to other food businesses) may need Approval of Food Business Premises, rather than registration.
