Netherton local centre is located on the main A459 route between Dudley and Halesowen, it is of linear shape, with most of the shops located on the Halesowen Road.
Although Netherton local centre is not a priority centre for regeneration, the Council are involved with an initiative with the Netherton Friends of the Park Group which is aimed at giving the shopping area an identity. A competition was run with local schools and youth groups to design a concept that will be worked up into a piece of public art that will go on the newly formed grassed bank on the Halesowen Road. The winner of this competition was from Hillcrest School.
The Borough Artist is now in the process of sketching out a number of options for the art work, these options will be consulted on with the local community and a preferred design will be selected. Once the final design has been chosen then planning permission will need to be applied for and bids to potential funding streams will be submitted.
