The Environmental Management Division, with a workforce of over 600 employees, is based at the Lister Road Depot and provides a wide range of key front line services that have a direct impact on all those who live in, work in and visit the Borough. In addition to the Lister Road site, the main base for the Recycling Collection Service is at the Blowers Green depot in Dudley.
The Division’s aim is to ensure it achieves continual improvement in the Council's objective to provide the best services it can for the people of Dudley, in line with the priorities of the Council and the Community, whilst carrying out essential day-to-day service delivery activities.
The key services within the Division are organised into two discrete sections, Street Care and Waste Care.
Street Care’s mission is “to maintain our street and adjacent parks, woodland and open spaces to the highest possible standards, adding value to the services we provide at the same time as improving quality of life”.
Street Care is the mechanism for the delivery of council services to the streets of Dudley.
This section is responsible for all carriageway and footway work, highway drainage, street lighting, parking, street cleansing and public conveniences. The section also covers grounds maintenance, parks and open spaces, horticultural (garden), and arboricultural (tree) maintenance.
Waste Care’s mission is “to promote and provide effective and efficient waste management and transport to all sections of the community and user groups in a positive, safe and sustainable manner”.
The management of the Borough’s waste is the primary function of the section that includes the collection and disposal of household and trade waste. Recycling also forms a major part of Waste Care and it manages the kerbside black box and green waste collection programmes. The Council’s Transport operation, including fleet management, vehicle maintenance and vehicle inspections, are also housed within Waste Care.
Housing Maintenance’s mission is “to maintain safe and comfortable homes for the families living in Council managed accommodation”.
Housing Maintenance undertake repairs and improvements to the Council’s housing stock and also provides a 24/7 emergency service. It provides maintenance services to all of the Council’s schools and public buildings. It also manages specialist and compliance teams, including electrical, gas, asbestos, water and fire across a range of buildings and Council managed homes.
