Business Grants

In response to COVID-19 (coronavirus), the government announced two initial grant schemes to assist businesses, available to small businesses and those businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors.

These schemes have now ended as at midnight 14th August 2020. If you have already submitted an application, please be assured it will be dealt with as soon as possible. We will update if any similar grant schemes become available.

A discretionary fund was also set up to help support certain additional small businesses who were not eligible. Round 3 of the discretionary fund is open for applications on Monday 24th August until midnight on Friday 28th August.  You can review details of the fund, check your eligibility and apply at Coronavirus Discretionary Grants Fund.

In Dudley borough we are also providing further support and guidance. Please visit Dudley Business First for this information.

Apprentice support - The Government have introduced payments to support employers who hire new apprentices between 1 August 2020 and 31 January 2021. They will make this payment in addition to the £1,000 employers already receive for hiring an apprentice:

  • aged 16 to 18 years old
  • under 25 with an education, health and care plan or has been in the care of their local authority

Employers who hire a new apprentice between these dates will receive a payment of:

  • £2,000 for apprentices aged 16 to 24
  • £1,500 for apprentices aged 25 and over

Find out more on the government website.

Hire experienced, work-ready apprentices - When you take on new apprentices, consider hiring apprentices who have been made redundant . They already have relevant skills and experience, and they qualify for the incentive payments too.

Support for apprentices facing redundancy - If you’re considering making an apprentice redundant, or you’re aware of employers who are, you can support them by sharing this guidance for apprentices facing redundancy.
