The biggest ever Black Country flag has been laid out on the lawns at Himley Hall – as the countdown begins to a huge outdoor music and comedy festival next week in the park grounds.
The first ever Black Country Musicom Festival takes place on Black Country Day – Sunday July 14 – from 12 noon to 7pm at Himley.
Main event sponsors Jewson were at Himley today (fri) to lay out a 40ft by 26ft flag on the lawn outside the hall, which will be in place during festival day.
Councillor Patrick Harley (far right), leader of the council, with representatives from Jewson, main sponsor of the Black Country Musicom. Jewson laid out the biggest ever Black Country flag at Himley Hall as the countdown starts to the event on July 14.
The Musicom is part of the Black Country Festival, a month-long celebration of all things bostin’ in the borough and beyond.
It will feature performances by leading Oasis, Little Mix, Spice Girls and Queen tribute bands, as well as local bands and singers. A comedy tent features Black Country lad Darren Harriott – as seen on Live At The Apollo and Mock The Week – plus a special mystery guest and the cream of the UK circuit.
There will be plenty for the kids to do, with a funfair and dedicated areas, as well as food, drink and craft stalls and a pop-up bar.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of the council, said:
This year is the sixth Black Country Festival and we want to make it bigger and better than ever before.
There is no better way to symbolise this than by creating the biggest ever Black Country flag, which for many has become the emblem of the festival.
We’re also putting on the Musicom for the first time, which promises to be a fantastic fun-filled event for the whole family in the sunshine with music, comedy and all sorts to do for the kids.
We would urge Black Country folk from the borough and beyond to turn out and support it, to enjoy a great day out celebrating who we are and where we’re from.
Vince Thurlby, of Jewson, said:
We are delighted to be the main sponsor of such a great event.
It’s going to be massive and as a leading builders merchant we wanted to create something befitting of the size of the event.
We had great fun putting the flag together and it looks fantastic on the lawns – I’m sure it will prove a big focal point at the festival next week.
