Business open evening this March
Dudley Council is continuing its popular business open evenings with a session focussed on construction.
The council has been running monthly open evenings which aim to introduce local business to the council procurement team, demystify some of the processes around procurement and show local businesses what the council can do to support them.
Last month’s event at Himley Hall attracted more than 100 people representing around 50 local businesses. The next event, scheduled for Wednesday 6 March from 4-6pm at Himley Hall is open to businesses of all sizes and disciplines, but will have a particular focus on construction and related trades.
Representatives from Construction Line who help to link approved, high quality suppliers with customers like Dudley Council will be on hand. Senior management from the council’s housing team and corporate landlord services will also be speaking. Topics will include new builds, supply chain, housing repair, housing improvements and maintenance and housing sales. Dudley Council is keen to hear from businesses of all sizes which work in these areas
There will be additional presentations from the procurement team, Dudley Business First which offers business support and advice, as well information about the Mayoral Business Club and the health and wellbeing support available to businesses of all sizes to help them keep their employees well and happy. There will also be a Q and A and networking session.
Businesses will also be able to find out about Dudley’s new approach to delivering social value. Before a procurement decision is made, alongside considering quality of work and value for money, the council will look at the social, economic and environmental benefits that can be delivered through each new contract.
Councillor Bec Gentle, cabinet member for partnerships, commercial and best practice said:
These business open evenings are part of our council vision to think local, buy local and keep the Dudley pound in Dudley.
We want to talk to local businesses of all sizes about how we can work together to make the Dudley economy stronger and more ambitious.
The open evenings are part of the work of the council’s new commercial and procurement division which is looking at the ways the council can support the local economy through the way it procures goods and services from local businesses.
