Christmas trees delivered

Posted on:

Christmas trees are being delivered to town centres across Dudley borough as the countdown starts to the festive season.

The trees have been delivered to Dudley, Halesowen, Stourbridge, Brierley Hill, Sedgley, Gornal and other key centres.

They will be decorated over the coming days as part of the build-up to Christmas lights switch-on events across the borough.

Councillor Shaz Saleem, cabinet member for highways and public realm, said:

Christmas is such an important time of year and it is important our town centres look festive and welcoming. I’m delighted to see the trees going in and preparing for those important events when we can welcome more people into our town centres to grab a Christmas bargain.

The tree in Dudley town centre is in the process of being replaced today after the council expressed disappointment at the one that was delivered by contractors

The tree at Gornal will also be replaced following a similar concern.

Councillor Saleem added:

We were very disappointed with the quality of the tree delivered to us in Dudley town centre, shoppers and traders expect much better. We don’t see them before they are delivered and then we decorate them once they have been put in place. We have therefore been in touch with the supplier and they have agreed to replace it free of charge.

Halesowen will be the first borough town to host their Christmas lights switch-on event on Saturday 19 November, running from 9am to 5.30pm.

On Sunday 20 November, Sedgley will host its Christmas lights switch-on event from 4pm to 7pm, featuring a stage with live entertainment and a festive market.

Head to Stourbridge town centre on Saturday 26 November from 9am to 5.30pm to enjoy a market, food and fairground rides, as well as live entertainment on the main stage.

As Advent calendars start to be opened and the final countdown to Christmas Day begins, both Dudley and Brierley Hill will be lighting up their decorations on Saturday 3 December.

Free car parking will also be available on Dudley Council operated car parks at the events in Stourbridge, Dudley and Brierley Hill. For the locations of these car parks, visit the MyDudley car parking page.

The council has also been made aware of a privately run event in Kingswinford on December 2 from 4.30pm.
