World Cup fever is gripping Dudley as the leader of Dudley Council announced plans to fly the England flag from the roof of the council house
The cross of St George will fly proudly from the roof of the landmark building in Priory Road for England’s last 16 game against Colombia tomorrow (Tuesday).
And the flag will also fly ahead of all England games if the team progresses further in the tournament in Russia.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of the council, said:
This has been a fantastic tournament so far and England have rightly made us all proud as a nation.
In Dudley we are showing our support for the national team by flying the flag in Dudley. We hope it not only promotes pride in the national football team but also inspires people to take up sport, whether football or anything else. Hopefully we can find the next generation of sporting stars in Dudley.
The flag will be flown from the council house tomorrow (Tuesday).
Councils across the country are being invited to follow suit following advice from central government.
