Dudley is open for business

As the country prepares for most restrictions to be lifted on 19 July, Dudley Council is reminding people to book their summer visits to attractions in the borough.

The local authority is running its iconic Discover Dudley advert on regional TV over the coming weeks and attractions are expecting big visitor figures.

The opening coincides with an outstanding accolade for Dudley Zoo and Castle, in which the star attraction was given the thumbs following a mystery shopper visit from Visit England.

Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:

We are delighted to see our borough opening back up and we are reminding people that our Dudley attractions are ready to welcome them with most restrictions being lifted this month.
Many attractions in the borough are continuing to offer timed appointments following feedback from customers and now is the time to plan summer activities.
Dudley borough has a strong visitor economy and I have no doubt that thousands of people will come to our fantastic attractions this summer.

The Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme award is issued annually by Visit England and follows a secret visit by the tourism industry regulatory body, who provides an unbiased viewpoint of the visitor experience provided.

The highest scoring category at the zoo this year was staff, with a 91 per cent rating. The report complimented their efficiency, knowledge and customer care.

It also highlights the excellent range of content on site and notes the first-class interpretation and signage, attractive appearance of the grounds and gardens, car park and entrance and the well-stocked and attractive gift shop.

Derek Grove, Director of Dudley Zoo and Gardens, said:

Dudley borough has many local attractions including Dudley Zoo & Gardens, Red House Glass Cone, Black Country Living Museum, Himley Hall and the Ruskin Glass Centre – to name but a few.

Visitors are reminded that road works could delay journeys around the Castle Hill area and they should check the latest travel updates when planning a visit.

Attraction restrictions are likely to vary and more information is on the Discover Dudley website
