The award winning Halesowen in Bloom has been put forward for an international award following regional and national success last year.
Made up of more than 100 volunteers, the group received Gold in the Urban Community Category for the Heart of England and subsequently beat five other regional winners to be crowned the national award winners in October 2018.
Halesowen in Bloom will now go up against other towns across the world in the Communities in Bloom contest, putting the town firmly onto the international stage.
Councillor Alan Taylor, Mayor of Dudley said:
As a Halesowen resident and councillor, I am delighted to see that the fantastic work Halesowen in Bloom has done for the town is being recognised at this level.
This success is testament to everyone who has been involved in the campaign and I would like to wish the volunteers and businesses well as they compete at an international level.”
Eve O’Connor, Halesowen in Bloom chair said:
Halesowen in Bloom has brought people and businesses together to make the very best of our beautiful town and we are proud of all that Halesowen continues to achieve.
We have seen how winning a national award has brought in new visitors and interest in the town and this new international entry is very exciting.”
The national in Bloom campaign is run in association with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) to celebrate the amazing horticulture work carried out in communities by volunteers, groups and organisations. Judges from RHS praised Halesowen for having the finest quality flowers, hardworking volunteers and a diverse range of horticulture.
