Himley bonfire honours heroes in style

Posted on:

Thousands of people flocked to Himley Hall for the biggest bonfire and fireworks show in the Midlands which this year celebrated heroes.

People packed the grounds of the historic hall tonight (Saturday November 3) for the towering bonfire and thousands of fireworks.

The theme was heroes with a special tribute to the servicemen and women of the armed forces as thousands of poppy shaped fireworks lit up the night sky, to mark 100 years since the end of World War One.

Other entertainment included music from Heart FM, fire-eaters, Thomas Jones fun fair as well as well as a night market and food and drink stalls.

Midland Metro Alliance also paid for pupils from Halesbury Special School to watch the fireworks.

Councillor Keiran Casey, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:

Himley Bonfire has always been the biggest and best fireworks display around, and this year it certainly lived up to that reputation. “The planning that goes into an event like this is incredible and I am glad we were able to provide another fantastic night out at one of our premier venues."

Councillor Alan Taylor, Mayor of Dudley, said:

I’m delighted we have been able to celebrate heroes at this year’s bonfire. The fireworks show in particular was a lovely tribute to remember the brave heroes who sacrificed so much during the First World War, with the display of poppies over the hall.”
