Mayor commends success of care leavers

Posted on:

The Mayor of Dudley has commended the educational achievements of inspiring care-leavers in the borough.

Councillor Sue Greenaway invited care leavers to meet with her recently so she could find out about their success first-hand and celebrate their achievements with them.

The care leavers have all gone on to complete higher education qualifications since leaving care and are either in employment or seeking further training to enhance their career and aspirations.

The Mayor presented each care leaver with a key and a framed poem to recognise their success as a key to their future.

The celebration event was organised by the Virtual School and was supported by Timpsons.

Councillor Sue Greenaway, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

It was truly inspiring to meet with the care leavers earlier this week and learn first-hand about their fantastic successes and some of the obstacles they have had to overcome along the way.
They are a credit to themselves, and I commend their determination to succeed.
I have every confidence that they will continue to achieve great things both professionally and personally and I wish them all the very best for the future.

Every year a number of care leavers successfully move on to further or higher education where they are supported by Dudley Council through a young person’s adviser. They are also given financial support to help fulfil their aspirations. This can include help with accommodation and travel costs.
