Military intelligence unit to receive highest accolade
A top level military intelligence unit is in line to receive Dudley borough’s highest accolade in honour of services to the armed forces.
At full council on Monday February 18, members will be asked to grant Freedom of the Borough to 63 Company of the 6 Military Intelligence Battalion, based at the Army Reserve Centre in Stourbridge.
’63 Company is one of three military intelligence sub-units across the country that belong to 6 MI Battalion and draws a significant number of its recruits from within Dudley borough.
It has a contingent of 94 reservists and specialises in training them to become military intelligence analysts to deliver complex operations.
Reservists have been deployed to work alongside their regular army Intelligence Corps colleagues in areas of conflict.
Councillor Alan Taylor, the Mayor of Dudley, said:
The Freedom of the Borough is held in the highest regard and granted to those organisations and individuals who contribute significantly to the borough and go above and beyond anyone’s expectations.
We are proud of our long-standing relationship with the military and I am delighted that 63 Company has been put forward to receive the honour. The unit’s highly skilled reservists support complex military operations in order to defend the freedom of our borough and beyond.
If granted, they will be the fifth military organisation to be given Freedom of the Borough since 2000.”
If approved, an event to formally present the Freedom scroll will be organised later this year.
Last year, Freedom of the Borough was granted to RAF Cosford and Roy Richardson.
