New improved path for walkers and cyclists
A path is to be upgraded linking Russells Hall Hospital with a new housing development nearby.
The path on Overfield Road will be widened and then extended to run through to new homes off Red Kite Drive on Russells Hall estate, around half a mile walk from the hospital.
It will also link Russells Hall Park, known locally as Middlepark, as well as the sports and play areas and the Broad Meadow sheltered housing scheme.
Council bosses are proposing the £40,000 spend in a bid to make it easier for residents to walk or cycle to the hospital and around the estate.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environmental, highways and street services, said:
As a council we are very keen to encourage people to walk or cycle rather than always using the car.
We’re all aware of the pressures on parking around the hospital, so we want to provide an alternative route to make it easy for residents living nearby to access the site on foot or by bicycle.
The new path will also make it easier for people to get to the park and take advantage of the open spaces on the estate.
The cash for the project will come from a grant given to the council by the former Dudley Primary Care Trust (PCT) to provide better walking and cycling facilities in the borough.
