Outdoor gyms to re-open
Outdoor gyms at parks across the borough will re-open as part of the latest measures to ease lockdown restrictions imposed during the coronavirus pandemic.
The outdoor gyms have been taped off and out of use since restrictions were introduced.
But indoor gyms and swimming pools at Dudley Leisure Centre, Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge and Halesowen Leisure Centre must remain closed for the time being. The Dell Stadium in Brierley Hill and Coseley Sports Centre will also remain closed.
Council bosses are currently working on a number of measures to ensure the centres are safe to visit when the time is right for them to re-open.
Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:
We are very pleased that our outdoor gyms will be re-opened for public use following the government’s latest announcement. With the current fine weather, it offers an ideal opportunity to get out into the sunshine and enjoy some exercise in the fresh air.
We appreciate it will be disappointing for some that the leisure centres are not re-opening as well, but staff and customer safety has to be our number one priority.
The council is working on plans to re-open when it is safe to do so. Measures include fitted safety screens, social distancing signage, enhanced cleaning and hygiene as well as changes to class numbers and swimming pool capacities.
